The Fremont post of the state Highway Patrol is currently investigating a single-vehicle, serious injury crash.
The crash occurred at 12:30 a.m. Friday on Tiffin Road, about two-tents of a mile south of County Road 201 in Sandusky County’s Ballville Township.
Mark B. Hickman, 31, of Clyde, was driving a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis north on Tiffin Road when he drove off the right side of the roadway, troopers said. Hickman’s vehicle re-entered the roadway and then he lost control, traveling off the right side of the roadway again. The vehicle struck a ditch and a utility pole before overturning and coming to rest in a field.
Hickman, who was not wearing a seat belt, sustained serious injuries and was flown by a LifeFlight helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.
The vehicle sustained heavy damage as a result of the crash and was towed from the scene by Madison’s Towing.
The Sandusky County Sheriff’s Department, Ballville Fire and Ems, Life-squad, and LifeFlight assisted at the scene.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, which is currently under investigation, troopers said.
