Miss Maple City wins talent award at Miss Ohio pageant

Miss Maple City Marisa Buchheit won a talent award Thursday night during Miss Ohio preliminary competition. Buchheit, 20, of Chicago, sang an opera number, besting eight others performing in the talent category Thursday -- the second of three nights of Miss Ohio preliminary competition. Each night a preliminary swimsuit winner and talent winner are named, based on judges' scores. Buchheit, a senior at Cleveland Institute of Music, receives a $500 scholarship for winning the talent award. Tonight she will compete in the swim wear category.

 Miss Maple City Marisa Buchheit won a talent award Thursday night during Miss Ohio preliminary competition.

Buchheit, 20, of Chicago, sang an opera number, besting eight others performing in the talent category Thursday -- the second of three nights of Miss Ohio preliminary competition.

Each night a preliminary swimsuit winner and talent winner are named, based on judges' scores.

Buchheit, a senior at Cleveland Institute of Music, receives a $500 scholarship for winning the talent award. Tonight she will compete in the swim wear category.

Buchheit qualified for the Miss Ohio pageant by winning the Miss Maple City title in February.

A total of 26 contestants are vying for the Miss Ohio title at the annual scholarship pageant. The winner will be named at the conclusion of Saturday night's finals, and she will earn a berth in the Miss America pageant as Ohio's representative.
