AVERY - EHOVE Ghrist Adult Career Center's nurse aide program coordinator Beverly Pheifer, RN, has been invited to participate in two professional health events.

The Ohio Department of Health asked Pheifer to be part of a review panel for state testing, based on the high passage rate of students from her class on the State Tested Nurse Aide (STNA) certification exam.

The Ohio Department of Health noted that the passage rate "is, in fact, one of the highest in the state." The STNA credential is required to work in Ohio nursing homes. EHOVE's nurse aide program graduates about 200 students each year, and has a pass rate of 88 percent for the written portion of the test and 99 percent for the clinical skills portion of the test. The state average is 82 percent passage for the written portion and 76 percent passage for clinical skills.

The test review panel is comprised of four nurses two from facility-based nurse aide programs and two from nonfacility based programs. She will assist in reviewing test questions, creating new test questions and other duties for the state of Ohio nurse aide programs.

In addition, Pheifer has been invited to attend a health education workshop in Helena, Montana May 17 and 18. The workshop is sponsored by D & S Technologies, the company that runs the computerized STNA testing system for the state of Ohio. D & S selects only one person from each state, and Pheifer was their candidate of choice to attend the symposium.
