A Norwalk teen was killed in a traffic crash early this morning.

The accident took place at 1:08 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 20 and Medusa Road in Townsend Township, said troopers with the Norwalk post of the state Highway Patrol.

Tyller A. Myers, 19, of Norwalk, was killed.

Troopers reported that Myers was southbound on Medusa in a red F-150 pickup truck when he failed to yield at the stop sign and collided with a westbound 2008 Peterbilt tractor-trailer being driven by Kevin P. Heter, 53, of Clyde.

Both vehicles went off the southwest side of U.S. 20, coming to a rest in a cornfield.

Myers was pronounced dead at the scene by Huron County Coroner Jeff Harwood. Heter was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo with non-life threatening injuries, troopers said.

The accident, which closed U.S. 20 for close to an hour, remains under investigation.

Assisting troopers at the scene were the Huron County Sheriff’s Office, Townsend Township Fire Department, Citizen’s EMS, North Central EMS, St. Vincent LifeFlight, the Ohio Department of Transportation and Northside Towing.

Annoying squirrel

Hope the trucker recovers. Sorry for the loss.

Annoying squirrel

Bullcrap. Life flight decisions are made on scene by mostly volunteer personnel. Stockholder in helicopter companies are probably in bed at 1:08 am and have nothin to do with it. Kelly's comment pushed it a little but yours is overboard.

Kelly

My comment didn't "push" anything. I have never lived in area that calls LifeFlight in so much as they do around here & I was asking a legitimate question. Our insurance won't cover an ER visit if they don't think you were sick enough to go & we have really good insurance.I just wondered if these people were getting stuck with bills in the tens of thousands. When my dad was LifeFlighted in Akron for an emergency surgery, they billed the insurance over $40,000.

lillady

You are seriously mistaken in this. The deciding personnel in calling flight are those EMS personnel on scene. Are you freaking serious to think this is all about the mighty dollar. People get a grip. This is about getting the appropriate care for a trauma patient

i dont think this is ever a factor. but ya never know

I'm sorry you lost him Elizabeth. I'm praying for you and your family.

So young & so sad..Prayers to Tyller's family..May God be with both families & help them thru this time..

Why do they always use LifeFlight for non-life threatening injuries? Will insurance even cover it if its not?

Dusty

My guess Fisher-Titus can not handle non-life threatening injuries. I thought they had some sort of trama rating in the ER but they may have lost it. They called for life flight for the crash in Clarkfield a few days ago also. My guess is if your in a accident, your getting Lifeflight. I would check with your insurance agent for coverage.

NewlyTrucker

I've heard this question asked before. I was told by unnamed sources that a deciding individual at the hospital has ownership in the Life Flight company as well. So that person makes money everytime someone is life flighted. Could this be a factor?

m...w...k

kelly, im pretty sure insurance covers it even if it turns out to not be life threatening. who cares what all these peoples say. i thought it was a good question

lillady

Kelly people are flown for a variety of reasons. Those on scene dont have the equipment to do xrays in the field so detecting life threatening internal injuries can not be seen. Protocals are followed in situations like this. As the article stated one of the people involved in this was dead at the scene that in itself is enough to justify flying the person. I see the paper did not post the pictures of this accident, had they you would understand the reason behind flying the individual. I am sure that you would rather be on the side of caution to fly you if you were injured in such a crash. Fire fighters and EMS personnel are always working for the best of the patient.

uturnlouie

Kelly REALLY are you some kind of a moreon Do you know what a head injury or a spinal cord injury can do. So many times people at an accident say they are ok and 10 mins. later, there are dead or seriously injuried. It never ceases to amaze me how some people talk just to talk.

Kelly

No, but apparently you are. So maybe you should stop talking just to talk.

what the eff

Kelly...i know its kinda early but...im pretty sure your gonna win the azzole comment of the article award...if ya'll agree...give me ahellya

I had this great (well in my mind) retort to "uturnlouie" about his spelling. As I was ready to hit , I thought wait better check urban dictionary. Sigh…. what do I find? Moreon: Someone who is even more of a moron than your average moron.
I'm not a spellcheck fanatic but I couldn't resist to some ribbing. Now what have I learned? When "moreon" and other such seemingly obvious misspellings may not listed in merriam-webster.com it doesn't mean they aren't real words in this world's ever-changing English language. Plus the fact that right now I feel like a moreon.
