An Ohio death row prison inmate says the execution gurney at Southern Ohio Correctional Facility may not hold him and members of the execution team may not be able to find his veins, so he is asking for his upcoming execution to be delayed.

Ronald Post, who shot and killed hotel desk clerk, Helen Vantz in Elyria, in northern Ohio almost 30 years ago, says the fact that he weighs 480 pound makes him too heavy for the state's lethal injection process. Post says his weight, vein access, scar tissue and other medical problems raise the likelihood of severe problems with an execution.

Lawyers for the 53-year-old Post also said in their federal court filing Friday the inmate is so big the execution gurney might not hold him.

"I'm not going to comment on the case because there are still legal issues and pending litigation," JoEllen Smith of the Ohio Department of Corrections said Tuesday. "But I can tell you that inmate Post remains in death row status."

Meanwhile, Governor John Kasich has denied clemency for Donald Palmer, who is scheduled to be put to death at SOCF Thursday. Palmer was convicted of shooting to death two men in 1989. If that execution occurs today, Ohio's death row, located at Chillicothe Correctional Institution, will be at it's lowest occupancy level since 1995 at 144.

Palmer is still scheduled to be executed today.

truckin

Our prison system feeds the inmates soooo well? they become OBESE? to 450lbs over 30 yrs..?? . Yet my growing child has had school lunches reduced to meet a calorie standard..?? Reduce the inmate to 1200 calories a day, with some sledge hammer work. Within a year and 100lb lost he will be begging to be executed.

storm

well said truckin, couldn't agree more

Most Wanted

Did he care about the way Helen died? Strap him to the floor and poke his fat a$$ veins until you hit one...end of story.

arnmcrmn

Couldnt agree more with you truckin. Maybe they should just put him in a room and let him eat himself to death.

Like I said to one of my friends: I just read the other day we have 7 of the shots left. We could use them all on him....or at least a couple. I'm sure it would work. He's just chickening out. His victim didn't have a choice, and he shouldn't either.

mister wizard

Too bad we don't have the electric chair anymore....he'd smell like bacon in a skillet.

Myrtle Turtle

Kind of like the guy on "The Green Mile" movie..

Windy

Awwww . . . poor, obese murderer. Maybe he could be hanged from a tall bridge using a thick rope from a ship? Just tell him he's going bungee jumping.

Cliff Cannon

Is he too fat to shoot ?

propman

Did he worry about the pain he caused his victim?
Strap him to a forklift if the gurney woen't hold him.

R U Kidding me

ok lets hang him. Then he has a advantage over someone smaller because he will die faster because it will pull his head off rather then just break his neck
