An area man pleaded guilty Monday to selling 20 methadone pills to a confidential informant -- his boss.

Lucas J. Blankenship, 26, of Sandusky, was convicted of trafficking in methadone for an April 2 incident. In exchange, the state agreed to dismiss one charge of trafficking in Alprazolam, stemming from an April 17 offense.

Following Huron County Prosecutor Russell Leffler's recommendation, Huron County Common Pleas Judge Jim Conway released Blankenship on a personal recognizance bond after Monday's hearing. He is subject to random drug screens.

The Huron County Sheriff's Office received information from the Erie County sheriff's deputies that Blankenship was selling some of his medication to some of his friends, Leffler said.

"They wired an informant," the prosecutor added.

Blankenship then met the informant in front of a business north of Norwalk in Blankenship's vehicle. Leffler said the defendant sold 20 methadone pills for $175.

Huron County Public Defender David Longo decided to tell the judge who the informant was.

"Mr. Blankenship knew exactly who it was; it was his boss," Longo said.

Blankenship has been in jail for the last six months, including a sentence for an unspecified misdemeanor. He faces six to 18 months behind bars and as much as five years of probation when he is sentenced Oct. 20.

Way to research your article there, Cary. Methadone is an opioid, used for heroin addiction maintenance and treatment. It is not, as you stated in your clever headline, "meth", nor is it an amphetamine of any sort or kind, nor is it even a stimulant. This paper lacks credibility for very obvious reasons.
