Reports of man with gun false

Police responded to a West Washington Street location Friday evening after receiving several reports of a man with a gun.

The reports ranged from the man threatening to commit suicide to chasing a female down the sidewalk with a gun.

A male and female were then located in the Newton Street area. The male matched the caller's description and was detained by officers. The man and female both denied having possession of a gun, and no gun was located by officers.

The man was evaluated by mental health professionals and deemed not to be a threat and released, police reported.
