John M. Weisz, 37, of 122 Ashford Ave., Bellevue, hit a deer Saturday on U.S. 20.

Trent W. McCullough, 43, of 5844 Ohio 303, Wakeman, was charged with failure to control Sunday after he went off the right side of Ohio 303 and hit a tree and embankment. The car went airborne, hit two more trees and came to rest on its top. McCullough took himself to V.A. Hospital with minor injuries. No further information was available.

Annette M. Schaffer, 44, of 44 1/2 Brown St., Monroeville, hit a deer Sunday on U.S. 20.

Bernice A. Bottomlee, 43, of 1592 Elm St., New London, hit a deer Monday on Ohio 162.

NORWALK FIRE

Assisted North Central EMS with a patient at 8:27 a.m. Monday at Jaycees Park. Returned to station at 9:25.

Responded to a small, unattended fire at 5:35 p.m. Monday in the back yard of 91 Woodlawn Ave. Firefighters told the homeowner to extinguish it with a garden hose. Returned to station at 5:45.

Extinguished a small open fire at 9:19 p.m. Monday at 9 Pine St. Returned to station at 9:30.

Set up a fan to take care of the smoke from a small dryer fire at 12:02 a.m. today at 244 Shady Lane Drive. Returned to station at 1:05.

Responded to an East Main Street house fire Sunday, which remains under investigation.

Whitney A. Simpson, 17, of 55 Marshall St., was charged with improper backing in the collision Monday with the vehicle driven by Raymond G. Gannett, 56, of 1963 Chenango Road, New London, at the intersection of U.S. 250 and Ward Avenue.

A West Key Drive motorist accused the driver of a silver Pontiac Grand Am of hitting the rear of her vehicle Monday at a St. Mary's Street business drive-thru and fleeing the scene.

Ryan M. Hall, 27, of 323 W. Main St., was charged with failure to maintain assured clear distance Monday after he hit the rear of the vehicle driven by Jeffrey K. Montgomery, 41, of 491 Fitchville River Road, New London, on Milan Avenue. Montgomery had stopped for a tractor-trailer backing into a business parking lot.

Corey M. Collins, 28, of Huron, was charged with failure to maintain assured clear distance Monday after he hit the rear of the stopped vehicle driven by Jeffrey A. Horchler, 59, of 29 N. Edison Drive, Milan, on West Main Street.

Sara C. Burns, 36, of 5 S. Garden St., hit a deer Monday on Whittlesey Avenue.

A Newton Street resident reported a suspected break-in through his back door Monday.

Dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call about a male suspect accused of "lurking" near an East Main Street home Monday. Charles E. Wireman, 25, of 185 W. Main St., Apt. 5, later was arrested and charged with attempted burglary. He currently is in custody at the Huron County Jail.

An employee of an Ontario Street business reported the theft of a small amount of cash from the office Monday.

A Townline Road 111, Plymouth, resident reported a suspicious motorist backed into his driveway and fled Friday.

Richard Brant Sr., 27, of 108 Third St., Willard, was arrested on a warrant Friday and charged with failure to pay fines and costs. He is serving a 10-day sentence at the Huron County Jail.

An area resident reported a fight in the parking lot of a West U.S. 224, New Haven, business Friday.

Michael R. Miller, 21, of 2705 Prairie St., New Haven, was arrested on an unspecified Richland County Sheriff's Office warrant Friday. He was turned over to a Richland County sheriff's deputy.

An area resident reported there was a brown horse on the road between Chenango Road and Townline Road 12, Wakeman.

Carolyn S. Horner, 50, of 5172 N. U.S. 250, was arrested on a Huron County Common Pleas Court warrant Saturday and charged with trafficking in drugs. She was released from the Huron County Jail after posting bond Monday.
