Are Americans popping too many pills?

Once while working at another newspaper, a female colleague asked me to retrieve something heavy from her car. When I stuck my head in the driver's door, I couldn't help notice the Wellbutrin prescription clipped to her sun visor for anyone to see. I was eventually to learn that more than half the people in the office were regularly consuming some type of antidepressant-type drug and talked about it as if it were no big deal, just a part of their routine little different from their morning cup of coffee.
