A 77-year-old Norwalk man was scheduled to appear in court today in connection with improperly touching a resident of an Erie County nursing home Sunday.

Edward A. Estep, of 4 Second St., is accused of putting his hand down the pants of an 80-year-old woman while she was in the bathroom she shares with his wife, Erie County Sheriff's Capt. Paul Sigsworth said. The man told authorities he didn't know what happened and used poor judgment.

Estep said he may have accidentally touched the woman's breast when he was helping the victim back to her room at the Erie County Care Facility on East Perkins Avenue. Estep's wife is a resident there.

The woman, who has Alzheimer's disease and dementia, had wandered into the room of Estep's wife, something that happens occasionally, Sigsworth said.

Estep and the woman stopped in the bathroom, which connects the two rooms, as he was helping her return to her room. There in the bathroom she put her hand on the sink to regain her balance.

A staff person came to the victim's room and saw the alleged touching incident, Sigsworth said. The sheriff's captain described Estep as apologetic when a deputy and the nursing home staff interviewed him later.

"He is there once (or) twice a day to visit," Sigsworth said.

Estep's initial appearance in Huron Municipal Court on a misdemeanor count of sexual imposition was scheduled for this morning. He said he expected his lawyer to appear on his behalf.

"I can't comment on anything," Estep said this morning.

Get this guy away from people, for sure, but one could hope we should all maintain the same interest in sex (Before the feminists go off, I know it's violence, not sex, but it's just a joke) at that age.
