GREENWICH A Greenwich man was involved in a tragic accident Friday morning.

Nelson Leid, 38, of 4470 Edwards Road, was backing up the piece of farm equipment he was operating when he noticed one of his three children was not standing nearby, Huron County Sheriff's Major Greg Englund said.

Leid then realized he accidentally ran over his 18-month old son with a farm trailer, Englund said.

His son's name was not available.

Dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call about the incident at 11:05 a.m. North Central EMS and the Tri-Community Joint Fire District were sent to the Edwards Road home near Plymouth East Road.

Firefighters established a landing zone for a medical helicopter, which was requested about the same time the fire department was notified.

The Lucas County coroner ruled the boy died at 12:31 p.m. at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. He sustained head, chest and abdomen injuries, Englund said.

The sheriff's major said the boy's death currently is not considered suspicious.

"It appears accidental, but we're still investigating it. It's a shame," Englund said.
