Norwalk students learn fire safety while having fun

The chant in the Maplehurst Elementary cafeteria started rather subdued -- for third-graders, that is -- only to grow in intensity. The fourth-graders who filed in and sat down soon started their own version. But it couldn't quite overtake the power of the third-graders' chant.

In the end, it was the upper grade that the won the fire-safety competition Wednesday. Norwalk Firefighter Dave Wallace, the fire prevention officer, visited each of the elementary schools in Norwalk City Schools and Norwalk Catholic School as part of Fire Prevention Week.
