Norwalk tennis stays atop SBC Lake division

NORWALK — The host Truckers swept Clyde in Sandusky Bay Conference Lake division action Tuesday to improve to 12-1, 7-0 on the season.

The win keeps Norwalk alone atop the Lake division, and sets up Thursday’s big rematch at home with Perkins (8-2, 5-1). Norwalk won the first meeting, 4-1, on Aug. 27.

In singles play on Tuesday, Megan Berry defeated Lakotah Cagle at No. 1 (6-0, 6-0), while Gabby Horowitz bested Megan Barrett at No. 2 (6-1, 6-2) and Lauren Metcalf topped Klara Miller at No. 3 (6-2, 6-2).

In doubles action, the duo of Jordan Gran and Sela Berry defeated Mary Wilkerson and Emma Strudthoff at No. 1 (6-0, 6-1), while Mara Berry and Alexa Moore topped Hali Hagemeyer and Alyssa Laurer at No. 2 (6-0, 6-2).

Willard 5, Port Clinton 0

WILLARD — The Crimson Flashes swept Port Clinton in Bay division action Tuesday, keeping their spot at the top.

In singles action, Emma Moll topped Hannah Cross at No. 1 (6-1, 6-1), while Carlee Gibson bested Alaina Dackermann at No. 2 (6-0, 6-3) and Addison Paxton beat Ally Batterton at No. 3 (6-0, 6-0).

The Flashes’ (9-1, 7-0) Addie Slone and Jo Brubaker defeated Amelia Smith and Olivia Eickert at first doubles (6-0, 6-0), while Tori Barnett and Kennedy Daub bested Madison McGlothlin and Paige Reineck at No. 2 (6-1, 6-0).

VOLLEYBALL

Monroeville 3, Plymouth 0

PLYMOUTH — The state-ranked Eagles (No. 15, Div. IV) made quick work of the host Big Red in Tuesday’s Firelands Conference match, winning 25-5, 25-5, 25-12.

For Monroeville (8-1, 4-1), Kyle Brooks was 18 for 19 serving with three aces, and added eight kills and three blocks. Graisyn Yoder had seven kills, while Adrian Barman and Lydia Landoll each added six, and Kelsie Palmer had five kills and four blocks.

Also for the Eagles, Camryn Hedrick was 57-of-57 setting with 36 assists. Maddie Elmlinger had eight digs, with Josee Brown adding six and Hannah Stieber had five.

Willard 3, Vermilion 2

WILLARD — The Crimson Flashes edged Vermilion, 21-25, 25-19, 25-12, 22-25, 15-4.

Cam Colahan led the Sailors with 17 digs and 10 kills, while Hillarie Habermehl had nine kills and Bree Calaway added 30 assists and 14 digs.

Vermilion returns to action Thursday against Huron.

Edison 3, Port Clinton 0

PORT CLINTON — Edison swept the Redskins in SBC Bay Division action, 25-7, 25-11, 25-13.

Natalie Lambert led the Chargers (3-6, 2-2) with 16 assists, 16 points, five digs and one ace, while Lilli Schuster added nine kills and four points, Grace Houser had 14 digs and six points, and Kira Appeman contributed seven kills and four points.

Hannah Vitaz added eight kills and four points for the Chargers, while Jessica Stoll contributed eight points and five digs, Olivia Vitaz had 10 assists, one kill and six points, Danielle Blatnik had five points and two digs, and Melissa Kuhl contributed three digs.

Edison returns to action at home against Willard Thursday.

Crestview 3, South Central 0

OLIVESBURG — The Trojans fell to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the FC with Tuesday’s loss at Crestview.

Taylor Sexton had nine kills and 11 digs for South Central, while Ellery McKee was 96-of-99 setting with 10 assists. Izzy Hauler had 15 digs, and Lorin Walcher added 14.

New London 3, Mapleton 1

NEW LONDON — The Wildcats (1-7, 1-4) picked up their first win of the season with Tuesday’s four-game win over visiting Mapleton, 25-23, 25-23, 16-25, 25-19.

For New London, Gabby Ledbetter had 13 kills on 26-of-28 hitting. Marisa Molnar had eight kills, and Katie Layport and Catherine Blaser each added five.

Lili Bartow served 15 points with four aces, and Molnar added 10 points and three aces. Brooklyn Hudson had 18 digs, and Bartow was 68-of-69 setting with 26 assists.

SMCC 3, New London 1

SANDUSKY — New London lost Monday’s non-league match at St. Mary Central Catholic in four games, 25-14, 23-25, 21-25, 20-25.

For the ‘Cats, Ledbetter was 26-of-29 hitting with 13 kills, with Layport adding seven kills and Bartow had six. Molnar served 11 points with six aces, and Hudson had 26 digs.

Also for New London, Bartow was 68-of-69 with 27 assists.

Bellevue 3, Columbian 2

BELLEVUE — The state-ranked Lady Red survived a stern test from visiting Tiffin Columbian on Tuesday, winning 25-17, 22-25, 16-25, 25-17, 15-13.

Bellevue sits atop the Lake division after improving to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the SBC Lake division.

Taylor Baxter was 36-of-40 hitting with 19 kills for the Lady Red, also adding 27-of-29 serving with six aces along with 16 digs. Payton Vogel was 42-of-48 hitting with 16 kills and four blocks, and added 21 digs.

Also for Bellevue, Molly Bullion was 113-of-113 setting with 43 assists, 13 digs and 14 for 14 serving with an ace. Kami Hay added 17 digs, and Madison Hrynciw had 17.

BOYS GOLF

Norwalk earns third SBC win

SANDUSKY — Norwalk shot a 180 at Mills Creek in Sandusky against the Blue Streaks on Monday, who have just one golfer.

Norwalk (3-4 SBC Lake) was led by both Carter Kluding and Kyle Smith, who shot matching 44s. Zach Crane added a 45, followed by Gavin Koelsch (47), Noah Scheel (47), Isaac Scheel (49), Justin Sommers (48), Caleb Sommers (49), Thomas Gfell (50), Andrew Epperley (51), Ian MInor (52) Chanse Raymond (54) and Braden Lloyd (55).

Vermilion 166, Edison 186

HURON — The Chargers fell to the visiting Sailors in Tuesday’s SBC Bay match at Thunderbird South golf course.

Edison was led by Casey Fair, who tied for match medalist with a 41. Rounding out the scoring for the Chargers was Aden Hall (45), Noah Pulaski (47), Matthew Pound (53) and Connor Betts (61).
