At the Div. II Oak Harbor sectional on Saturday, the Norwalk girls advanced four individuals across four different events along with three relays to the district next week.
Anna Little moved on in the 50- (25.96) and 200-yard (2:06.96) freestyle swims. At the sectional, she placed third overall in both swims. Sela Berry also advanced in two swims, as her 2:09.84 was fifth in the 200 and her 5:48.29 was second overall in the 500 free.
Elyse Coe wasn’t far behind in fourth in the 500 (5:59.01) and will also move on to next week. Also individually for Norwalk, Carissa Link was sixth in the 200 IM (2:32.74) and in the boys 100 butterfly, Ethan Schmenk was ninth (1:02.27) to advance.
The Norwalk girls also advanced three relay teams featuring many of the same names.
The 400 free relay of Mara Berry, Sela Berry, Coe and Little took second on Saturday in 3:57.59, which is the No. 10 time in the district.
The 200 free relay of Mara Berry, Coe, Link and Little placed sixth in 1:50.45 to advance, as did the 200 IM relay of Mara Berry, Link, Coe and Sela Berry in 2:06.87.
The St. Paul boys also had an impressive showing in Div. II, led by standout Jarret Schaffer. He won the 100 breaststroke on Saturday in 1:02.82, which is the No. 2 time entering the district next week as well as a new program record. He also took fourth in the 200 IM (2:07.42) to advance, which is the No. 7 time in the district.
Andrew Schaffer also advanced in two individual events, as he was 12th at the sectional in both the 200 free (2:02.10) and the 100 backstroke (1:03.61). Also advancing for St. Paul was Patrick Matlack (10th, 53.52) in the 100 free and Bryce Wnek (11th, 5:37.88) in the 500 free.
Meanwhile, the 200 IM relay of Andrew Schaffer, Jarret Schaffer, Matlack and Gavin Moffit won the sectional in 1:44.56, which is the No. 5 time in the district, and broke another program record that was eight years old.
The 200 free relay of Matlack, Jarret Schaffer, Moffit and Andrew Schaffer was third at the sectional and has the No. 9 time in the district, while the 400 free relay of Moffit, Matlack, Ryan Hedrick and Wnek was 10th (3:41.53) to also advance.
Also in Div. II, Willard advanced four individuals and three relay teams. Both Nicholas Bauer and Charlie Slone (1:01.12). Blake Smith moved on in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.88) and Blake Thompson advanced in the 100 backstroke (1:00.07).
The Crimson Flashes also advanced the 200 free (1:39.04), 400 free (3:40.73) and 200 IM relay (1:51.40) teams.
