Big Red stays hot with FC win

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth softball team continued its winning ways with a 14-4 win over visiting South Central in six innings in a Firelands Conference game Friday.

The Big Red were only up 6-4 after two innings, but scored eight runs over the final three innings to pull away and improve to 6-7 (3-3 FC). After an 0-6 start, the Big Red have won six of their last seven games, the lone loss coming to Richmond Edison at the MVD Invitational in Ashland on April 14.

Offensively for Plymouth, Tristen Wiley doubled and drove in three runs, while Morgan Chaffins and Olivia Fidler each had two hits that included a double and one RBI. Shilo Plank singled and had two RBIs, Emily Akers doubled and scored three times, and Maycie Creveling drove in a run and scored three times.

In the circle, Mallory Miller allowed three earned runs on 11 hits with a strikeout and a walk in 5 2/3 innings.

For South Central (2-10, 0-4), Madison Allen was 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored, while Desiree Chill was also 2 for 4 with a run scored, and Sarah Oney was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Emma Keysor, Samantha Jayes, Kaycee Burton and Taylor Sexton each singled and drove in a run. Kailee Beaver also singled.

In the circle, Keysor allowed two earned runs on seven hits in four innings.


Monroeville 17, Mapleton 2

NANKIN TWP. — The Eagles again broke out the bats in a big way to complete the two-day sweep of Mapleton while staying unbeaten through 13 games.

For the Eagles (13-0, 6-0 FC), Payton Scheid doubled and drove in four runs, while Alex Carper was 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Morganne Stanley also driven three runs, had a hit and scored twice.

Also for Monroeville, Brooke Kime doubled with an RBI, Jessica Hayes had two hits and an RBI, and Taylor Reer had two his that included a triple.

Scheid pitched all five innings for the win. She allowed two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts and two walks.


Margaretta 14, Willard 9

WILLARD — Visiting Margaretta scored 10 runs in the top of the third inning, which was enough to outlast the host Crimson Flashes in a 14-9 win on Friday.

For Willard (3-3, 2-2), Haylie Hamons was 1 for 3 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. Katie Weiss also homered and drove in two runs, while Madie Secor had two hits, and Kalli Sowers doubled and drove in a run.


Oak Harbor 7, Edison 3

MILAN — The Chargers allowed three runs in the top of the first to state-ranked Oak Harbor in an SBC Bay division loss on Friday.

Offensively for Edison (3-7, 3-4), Kayla Mancuso doubled and scored a run, while Brooke Yates doubled and had an RBI. Lindsey Fortuna also had a hit and an RBI.

In the circle, Fortuna allowed two earned runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts and a walk.


Crestview 13, Western Reserve 0

COLLINS — Pitcher Isabelle Good had the lone hit for the Roughriders in Friday’s FC loss to the Cougars.

In the circle, Good went the distance with six runs being credited as earned on 11 hits for Western (0-10, 0-6). She struck out one and walked one.


Bellevue 10, Medina Buckeye 0

VERMILION — The Lady Red opened the Vermilion Invitational with a run-rule win over Medina Buckeye on Friday.

For Bellevue (8-2), Sophia Pressler was 3 for 4 with a triple, two RBIs, two stolen bases and three runs scored. Mayce Buckner was 2 for 4 with three RBIs, and Lyndsey Seamon was 2 for 2.

Also for the Lady Red, Riley Mohr doubled and Skyler Reed had a hit and two RBIs.
