Edison, Norwalk play to non-league tie

MILAN — Down 3-0 early in the second half, the Norwalk girls soccer team mounted a comeback to force a 4-4 tie with host Edison on Monday in a non-league match.

Gwen Olcott had two goals, while Nyah Daniels and Quinn Jaworski each added one. Coley Branum contributed two assists for Norwalk (4-2-1), which has a key SBC Lake division matchup on Wednesday at Perkins.

For Edison (4-2-1), Aliyah Caporini netted a hat trick with three goals, with Hanna Ceja adding the other score. Piper Nickoli and Sophie Clark had assists for the Chargers, who host Oak Harbor on Wednesday.

BOYS GOLF

Plymouth 169, St. Paul 206

NORWALK — The Big Red improved to 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the Firelands Conference with Monday’s win over host St. Paul at Eagle Creek.

For St. Paul, Jackson Cook had his best and the team’s season-best nine-hole score with a 41 on the course’s back nine.

Also for the Flyers, Nathan Juby shot a 49, followed by David Swope (56), Luke Meyer (60), Ian Kashian (60) and Logan Amato (62).

New London 175, Loudonville 193

LAKEVILLE — The Wildcats ran their perfect record to 10-0 with Monday’s non-league win over Loudonville at Round Lake golf course.

For New London, Ben Crawshaw was medalist with a round of 37. He was followed by Jaylin Moffit (44), Sean Armold (47), Sean Andolsek (47), Kotiana Barber (63) and Caileigh Kropka (66)

New London hosts Mapleton on Wednesday.

GIRLS GOLF

Clyde 221, Norwalk 226

NORWALK — The host Truckers fell to 5-2 in the SBC Lake division with Monday’s home loss to the Fliers at Eagle Creek.

For Norwalk, Hannah Dumbeck went low with a 50, with Anna Little adding a 54. Rounding out the Norwalk scoring was Noelle Jackson (60), Chloe Thomas (62), Carmen Krichbaum (62) and Emily Berry (65).

Norwalk is scheduled to play at Vermilion today.

FOOTBALL

South Central, St. Paul ranked

COLUMBUS — The first of seven weekly Associated Press state football polls was released on Monday, and two area teams appear in the Division VII rankings.

Off to just the third 3-0 start in 40 years, South Central is No. 12 in the poll. St. Paul is also in the others receiving votes at No. 18.

Also of note from the region, Tiffin Calvert (3-0), which beat St. Paul last week in Norwalk, is No. 5 in Div. VII.

In Div. III, Sandusky (3-0) debuted at No. 4, while Shelby (3-0) is eighth in Div. IV.
