Norwalk still unbeaten in SBC Lake play

NORWALK — The Norwalk girls soccer team again found its footing within the Lake division of the Sandusky Bay Conference.

After a 1-2 start to the season, Norwalk won its third straight Lake match on Wednesday with an 8-0 win over visiting Clyde at the Norwalk Soccer Complex.

The Truckers (4-2, 3-0) went unbeaten in Lake action in 2017 en route to its first-ever league championship, and are off to another good start this season.

Norwalk, which scored four times in each half, got a five-goal performance from freshman Nyah Daniels.

Also contributing were Coley Branum with two goals and an assist, while Quinn Jaworski had one goal and two assists.

Norwalk is off until a road non-league match on Monday at Edison.

Edison 4, Port Clinton 1

PORT CLINTON — The Edison girls soccer team extended its record to 4-1 with a conference road win over Port Clinton on Wednesday.

The scoring was led by Piper Nickoli with two goals, with Sophie Clark and Aliyah Caporini adding one goal each. Hanna Ceja and Holly Racioppi had the assists, while goalkeeper Elizabeth Pruitt finished with nine saves.

BOYS SOCCER

Norwalk 4, Clyde 0

NORWALK — The Norwalk boys soccer team got all four of its goals from Will Gehlhausen in Wednesday’s SBC Lake division match at the Norwalk Soccer Complex.

Also for the Truckers (2-4, 2-1), Ethan Barber and Regan Zieber added assists. Tyler Clark recorded his first shutout in net.

Norwalk will host Vermilion at 7 p.m. on Monday.

TENNIS

Norwalk 3, Fremont Ross 0

NORWALK — The host Truckers clinched the match early and two matches did not finish in Wednesday’s non-league match against visiting Fremont Ross.

At first singles for Norwalk (9-1), Megan Berry topped Gilli Gallagher (6-4, 6-2). The No. 1 doubles team of Jordan Gran and Sela Berry defeated Sophia Biggins and Viv Esquivel (6-1, 6-2) — ad the No. 2 team of Mara Berry and Alexa Moore topped Emma Johns and Lillie Swinehart (6-2, 6-1).

Among the matches that did not finish, Gabby Horowitz was trailing her opponent at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 5-4. At third singles, Lauren Metcalf was down 7-5, 4-1.

Norwalk is scheduled to host Bellevue in an SBC Lake division match today.

BOYS GOLF

Edison 185, Port Clinton 187

HURON — The Chargers edged the Redskins by a couple of strokes in Wednesday’s SBC Bay division matchup.

For Edison, Casey Fair was low score with a 38. He was followed by Aden Hall (43), Noah Pulaski (47) and Matthew Pound (57).
