Timber! The Romneys Fall For Park City Log Home
Mitt Romney may have lost the presidential election, but that doesn’t mean he can’t have a designer log home in Park City befitting Teddy Roosevelt – the presidential creator of many of our national parks and their majestic lodges.
Romney and his wife, Ann, have purchased just such a place in Park City, Utah. The rustic-looking Deer Valley home was designed by Fred Babcock and has been featured in Architectural Digest for its use of whole, locally-logged timber.
The home sprawls 8,700 square feet and had been listed for $8.9 million, but even with 6 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms, it could still prove to be a little tight for the Romneys, who have five married sons and 23 grandchildren.
An enormous 2-story great room with a massive fireplace is the focal point of the house, which includes 6 en-suite bedrooms and an entertainer’s kitchen. And for those who want to hit the slopes, there’s a private access to Success Ski Trail.
With this purchase, the Romneys are making their official return to Park City, where they owned a home for many years before selling in 2009 in anticipation of Romney’s 2012 presidential run.
The former GOP candidate also owns a summer spread in Wolfeboro, N.H., and a beachfront home in La Jolla, Calif., which the Romneys are tearing down to rebuild a custom home in its place.
His & Hers: New Digs For Katy Perry and Russell Brand
Katy Perry has dropped the price of her Hollywood Hills residence at
8159 Hollywood Blvd in Los Angeles, eager to rid herself of the home she owned when married to actor-comedian Russell Brand.
After first asking $6.925 million, Perry dropped the price by $430,000 in June and got a sale, only to see it fall through. It’s now listed for $5.988 million.
Perry and Brand have both moved on since their 2012 divorce. She has a new $11 million midcentury home in Hollywood Hills. And he has just bought a 1926 home in Los Angeles for $2.224 million.
Brand’s California digs are strikingly European, designed by period architect Roy Selden Price. The home measures 4,800 square feet, has 5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms and a separate guest apartment, in case he doesn’t want visitors to hear him “Roar.”
Christie Brinkley Sells – With Stipulations
Christie Brinkley has sold her home in Sag Harbor on the east end of Long Island for $10 million – but there was a catch for the buyers.
The former Mrs. Billy Joel sold the home under the condition that the new owners do not allow her second husband, Peter Cook, to work on or buy the house – an historic, waterfront abode on 2.6 acres at 6 Fahys Rd.
Built in 1804, the home has planked hardwood floors and white-washed wood walls with large windows capturing views of the bay. According to property records, Brinkley and Cook bought the home in 2007 for $8.9 million.
To make sure her wishes are carried out, Brinkley conveniently lives nearby and owns other homes in the area, including a home next door to newly sold property that she had on the market for $15.75 million in 2011.
‘Crocodile’ Hemsworth Snags Aussie Countryman’s Malibu Home
“Thor” star and native Australian Chris Hemsworth is channeling his inner “Crocodile Dundee” in a real way – by buying Paul Hogan’s home for $4.8 million.
Hemsworth and his wife, Elsa Pataky, will enjoy ocean views and a detached 1-bedroom guesthouse with their “impeccably” updated Victorian-style house. With 3 en-suite bedrooms, the place is filled with light and comes with designer touches.
