Celebrity Real Estate Roundup: Taylor Swift, George Jones
May 6, 2013 at 4:22 PM
It used to be boyfriends. Now Taylor Swift is making big houses her favorite items for flipping.
The award-winning, multi-millionaire, love-forsaken pop star with a flair for the commercially successful dramatic is taking a whirl with a new plaything: A $17 million mansion she just bought on the coast at Watch Hill, R.I.
The towering, 11,000-square-foot Cape Cod traditional is similar in style to the home Swift owns in Beverly Hills, only this New England gem sits high on five acres with 700 feet of beachfront down below. It also cost about four times more than the home she infamously bought and sold last year near the Kennedy Compound in Hyannis, Mass., where she had been dating a Kennedy kid.
Maybe Swift wants to try and rival New England songsters like James Taylor (Massachusetts) and Ray LaMontagne (New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts) for Yankee bragging rights.
“Drake and Josh” Star Short On House Payments
Once he was flying high as the star of Nickelodeon’s “Drake and Josh,’’ but these days, actor/musician Drake Bell is squeezing out some economically sour notes when it comes to his Los Angeles home.
Not only is the 1929-era, 4-bedroom home on Ley Drive in Los Angeles on the market as a short sale, it’s also in the midst of being foreclosed upon, with a potential auction right around the corner. Listed for $1.4 million, Bell bought the place in 2007 for $2.050 million, but apparently owed $85,238 as of 2012.
Death of Country Great George Jones Brings Estate Price Cut
The music will live on, thanks to the remarkable story-telling talents of this country legend, but the death of George Jones on April 26 at age 81 has placed greater urgency on trying to sell the singer’s Franklin, Tenn., estate.
Originally listed for $15 million in 2011, the 80-acre property on Nestledown Drive is down to an asking price of $8 million – not bad for an equestrian center that comes with a 9,704-square-foot main house, outbuildings and green pastures as neatly manicured as Jones’ famously coiffed hair.
Oh yeah, the estate comes with its own barbershop.
