Celebrity real estate roundup: Michael Jordan, Tommy Lee Jones

Zillow • Mar 1, 2013 at 9:46 PM

Michael Jordan at 50 is not much different from the Michael Jordan at 30 who relentlessly pushed himself and his Chicago Bulls teammates to win 6 NBA Championships. He is a self-described competition addict, whether it’s hoops or cards or golf or, yes, real estate.

Jordan has just added a 12,000-square-foot mansion in North Carolina to his collection of homes in Chicago, Florida and Salt Lake City. Jordan paid $2.8 million for the Lake Norman house in Cornelius, which is just 20 miles from where Jordan’s Charlotte Bobcats play.

Those Little Rascals Are Selling

As if their lives on the road and at home with wives and kids aren’t busy enough, now two members of Rascal Flatts are looking to move out of their Nashville-area homes. Joe Don Rooney has listed his 4-bedroom, 5-bathroom home in Brentwood for $1.68 million, while Jay DeMarcus has listed his white-columned brick Nashville home for $1.59 million. Both places are right around 8,000-square feet, but who knows. Maybe these guys need more room to stretch out after all that touring.

If You Can’t Sell, Rent

What do Misha Barton and Leonardo DiCaprio have in common? Both have taken down the “For Sale” signs and added “For Rent” to their Los Angeles-area homes. Barton is looking to get $35,000 a month for her Beverly Hills abode while Leo’s oceanfront compound in Malibu, which had been listed for sale for $23 million, requires a lot more bank: $75,000 a month.

For Tommy Lee Jones, “YOLO” means Polo

When he’s not starring with Meryl Streep in movies like “Hope Springs” or earning Academy Award nominations for best supporting actor for "Lincoln" (which he did not win), the Harvard-educated Tommy Lee Jones knows how to live large – on a horse, with a mallet in his hand, that is. Now the 66-year-old star has decided he needs one less polo farm, so he’s selling the 50-acre spread he built in Wellington, Fla. The ranch, complete with polo grounds, comes with a 4-bedroom, 11,000-square–foot home and a 48-stall horse barn. But don’t worry about Jones. He’s got two other polo-centric properties, one in California and another big estate in Texas.
