Gary “Spanky” Brant

NORWALK — Gary “Spanky” Brant, age 72, of Norwalk, passed away Friday, February 22, 2019 at Stein Hospice Care Center.

He was born March 23, 1946 in Sandusky and was a lifelong resident of Huron County.

He served in the U.S. Air Force and worked in the transportation industry for more than 40 years.

Spanky touched many lives, especially most recently with his involvement with the Smiley Automotive Family. He held memberships with the VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed treasure hunting at estate sales and flea markets, and was generally shopping for someone other than himself.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Ginny; and his children, John (Ronna) Brant of New Mexico, Penny (Chris) Stang of Norwalk, Carla (Ron) Osborne of New London and Laura Pratt of Colorado. His pride and joy was his grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Jeremiah, Sam, Roberta, Mark, Christopher, Kaeleigh, Jon, Amanda, Ron Jr. and John. He is also survived by his sisters, Sue Power of Calcutta, Norma Jean Miller of Sandusky; and his brother, Ronald Brant Sr. of Norwalk, as well as 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irene (Kenneth) Link and Gerald Brant Sr.; and his siblings, Gerald Brant Jr., Donald Brant and Mary Shrader.

Friends may call on Monday, February 25, 2019 from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
