NORWALK — Lawanda Beverly Mason, 85, of Norwalk, died on February 6, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. On October 10, 1933, she was born in Punxsutawney, PA to her late parents, Bryan and Ola. She grew up in Brookville, PA and graduated from Brookville High School in 1951. While working as a switchboard operator in 1953, she was swept off her feet by a handsome sailor from Elyria named Robert Wilson Mason. She married Bob and together they started an epic love story.

Lawanda and Bob moved to Elyria before later moving to Norwalk in the 1960’s. As their family grew, she was a cub scout den mother, band mom, Sunday School teacher, bible study leader, MOPS organizer, meals-on-wheels volunteer, and a three-time Norwalk Trucker Football mom. Many Truckers and visiting football teams have enjoyed her legendary post game sloppy joes throughout the 1970’s and early 1980’s. Through the years, she traveled with family to FL, VA, CA, AZ, Germany, PA, TN, IL, MO, NE, and GA. But Lawanda was most comfortable at home loving and caring for her family. Bob and Lawanda returned to Norwalk after living in Huron for a few years, and together they wrote the final chapter of a more than 65-year love story.

Lawanda will be missed, but she anticipated, and is undoubtedly enjoying a heavenly reunion with her loving husband who passed from this world to the next on January 25, 2019. The two are reunited in the presence of their Savior, whom they loved and worshiped together throughout their marriage here on earth. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Leila Shultz, and grandson, Michael Mason.

Lawanda is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Jones of Norwalk, Ohio; her sons, Kirk Mason (Linda) of Sarasota, Florida, Brad Mason (Carol) of Huron, Ohio, and Brett Mason (Cheri) of Fairfax, Virginia. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren Visitation will be held at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio, on Saturday, February 16, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. where funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.

A private interment will take place on Monday in Woodlawn Cemetery in Norwalk, Ohio, next to her husband, mother, and grandson.
