On March 18, 1952, Coleen was born in Norwalk, Ohio, one of three children of the late Floyd Ray and Lila Rose (Kelley) Garner. She was raised in Wakeman, OH (the Norwalk area), where she grew up in the Clarksfield Methodist Church and graduated as a Western Reserve Roughrider. She also attended Ehove Vocational School, where she received nurses training.
In 1980, Coleen moved to Harpster, Ohio, where she worked as a dental receptionist for Dr. Stanley Kear DDS in Upper Sandusky. Then, in 1997, she moved to Marion, to work as an unit/registration clerk at Marion General Hospital, where she stayed until she retired in 2011.
During her time at Marion General, Coleen met a wonderful man, Paul H. Meister, who quickly became her best friend. They were both head over heels for one another for years before he finally “had the guts to ask her out.” Soon thereafter they were married on March 3, 2007, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Cardington. Soulmates, Coleen and Paul shared a special love, cherishing every moment of their short time together. He preceded her in death on February 18, 2010. Paul treated Coleen as his princess, and her heart never recovered from losing her one true love.
A dedicated mother, Coleen did all she could to be there for her two daughters throughout their lives. She was the most loving and nurturing mother they could have asked for. She was their rock. She also enjoyed helping them with Brownie Scouts, and through the Eastern Star she was a mother adviser for the Rainbow Girls.
Meticulous about her yard, Coleen loved to mow, keeping her grass at just the right height all the time. She worked in her yard every spare moment she had. Many people have always thought that she had her lawn professionally taken care of.
Having a heart of gold, Coleen would do anything for anyone, not thinking twice about giving away her last dollar. She would lend a helping hand with any project you needed completed.
Most important of all to Coleen was her family. She loved spending time with her daughters and her grandchildren, who were “her world.” She especially loved watching them play sports. They will forever miss her witty, fun loving personality. Her love will carry on in them for the rest of their lives.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughter: Colette (Sherman) Jones of Cardington, and Jacqueline (Curtis) Markley of Norwalk; four grandchildren: Alaina Jones, and Kline, Garrett, and Aiden Markley; a brother, Collin (Carol) Garner, and Carolyn Winkler, both of Norwalk; numerous nieces and nephews; cousins; former husband, James Schneider; and her special canine companion, Sienna, who never left her side.
Including her husband and parents, Coleen was preceded in death by three grandchildren: William, Danielle, and Brittany Penwell; and a brother-in-law, Mark Winkler.
Her family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2018, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, DENZER Chapel, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services honoring her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, at the Dayspring Wesleyan Church, 2431 Marion-Mt Gilead Rd, Marion, with Pastor Beau Hummel officiating.
