Larry was a 1971 graduate of Milan High School, and attended Urbana University. A nearly 50 year resident of Milan, Ohio, he loved his adopted home town, and was a fierce and loyal friend and companion to so many.
He was an Engineer for Norfolk Southern Railroad for several decades, a job which he was proud of as he had followed in the steps of his grandfather.
Larry was an adventurer by heart, and his happiness was realized when he was out in nature. He taught his sons about astronomy while lying in the grass at night, and enjoyed the simple pleasure of chatting around a fire. The adventurous spirit took him all over the United States, but he was especially passionate about caving for which he found an additional love of nature below ground.
Much to his chagrin, he didn’t pass his love of the game of pool onto his sons, but he was the Erie County Pool League president for 33 years, and had hoped to one day teach his granddaughter the game he loved so. His second passion after pool was the game of golf. Those two games involved some of his fondest memories of camaraderie.
Larry was a complex person, but the most beautiful soul. He treasured everything; every smile, every laugh, but his wife, sons, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter were treasured above all else. He will be missed terribly, but remembered always by his wife of 34 for years, Deborah (nee Mack); his son and son-in-law, Brandon Crabbs and Erik Mayer of Columbus, OH; son and daughter-in-law, Cory and Brandi Cochran of Milan, OH; granddaughter, Ellyana Eve Cochran; sister, Kay Gwinner of Marion, OH; father-in-law, John Stafford of Berlin Heights, OH.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Betty Cochran; mother-in-law, Jean Fox-Stafford; his beloved dogs, Elvish, Rummy-doo, Ninja, Foursocks, and Beta; and his cats, Callie, Tipper, and TJ.
“Do adventures ever have an end? I suppose not. Someone else always has to carry the story.”
Larry’s friends and loved ones may call on Wednesday, August, 8, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Groff Funeral Home, 1 South Main Street, Milan, Ohio. A private interment will be held at a later date.
