Bernard L. “Bud” Maerkisch

NORWALK — Bernard L. “Bud” Maerkisch, 84, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2018 in his home.

He was born August 4, 1933 in North Fairfield, Ohio, to the late Bernard O. and Marth Rose (Hoffman) Maerkisch. Bud was a 1951 graduate of North Fairfield High School, and was a career veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a Chief Warrant Officer and heavy equipment operator.

Bud served in the Navy for 41 years retiring in 1993.

After retiring from the Navy, Bud was the Equipment Superintendent for Dravo Corp. (Lockheed Martin), and worked for Martin Marietta in the Bahama’s for 9 years. He was a member, and commander, of North Fairfield Post #706, where he served on the honor guard for many years.

Bud enjoyed fishing, bowling, and going to the Casino.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline L. “Jackie” (Couch) Maerkisch of Norwalk, Ohio, by his children, Cathy (Frank) Quigley of Alexandria, Virginia, Dennis Maerkisch of Huron, Ohio, Anne Maerkisch of Tiffin, Ohio, Barbara Maerkisch of Norwalk, Ohio, and Heather Maerkisch of Norwalk, Ohio, by 4 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

Bud was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Maerkisch, and by sisters, Rose Beth Myers, Ruth Gillies, and Joanne Maerkisch.

Calling hours and memorial service will be announced after the Memorial Day holiday. Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio, is in charge of arrangements.
