Alan (Hap) Dillistin Johnson, 94, 1020 Capps Road, Lynn, NC died Wednesday June 11, 2014 in Landrum, South Carolina.
He was born in Newark, NJ and he was the son of Alan and Helen Beveridge Dillistin Johnson. He was trained as an aerospace engineer at Purdue University. After serving in the Army Medical Corps as a conscientious objector during World War II, he returned to NASA and worked there for 30 years.
Much of his career was spent as director of the NASA Plumbrook Research Station in Sandusky, Ohio, living in Norwalk Ohio with his wife and 4 daughters.
He and his wife Mary Jane retired to NC to plant a vineyard and a large garden and pursue many and varied crafts. Surviving include wife Mary Jane Johnson, and daughters Jinny Johnson, Cynthia Johnson, Elizabeth Hitch (Keith Hitch), and Ann Johnson (Mike Frost), 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Memorial Services will be held in the future and announced later.
