Marcella Weber DeChant

Marcella Weber DeChant, 92, of Huron, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014, at home surrounded by her loving children.

She was born to Louis and Carrie Weber in Avon Lake, Ohio on May 29, 1922, the sixth of nine children.

Marcella met Kenneth DeChant at a dance in 1940, and they had their first date at Cedar Point. She married Kenneth on December 28, 1944 and moved with her family to Huron in 1949.

She graduated from North Ridgeville High School in 1940 and has been a member of "The Merry Wives of '40' Club" which has been meeting regularly for over 70 years.

She has been a parishioner of St. Peter's Catholic Church since 1949 where she was a member of the church's Altar and Rosary Society for many years. Marcella loved tending her flower gardens and was a long time member of the Huron Garden Club.

Prior to her marriage she worked at the Cleveland Bomber Plant (I-X Center, Cleveland) where the B-29 Bomber was constructed during WWII. After moving to Huron, she worked side by side with her husband and also managed the financial books for the DeChant Family Farm.

Marcella has lived at her long time Huron home accompanied in her later years by her beloved dog Goldie and her youngest daughter Andrea and granddaughter Hannah who became her caregivers as her health failed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, of 67 years, her parents; six sisters: Dorothy Thome, Catherine Schneider, Thelma (Sr. Mary Lewis SND), Mary Frank, Clara Guggenbiller, and Carrie Lou Lowe; an infant daughter Marita Jeanne; and a son-in-law David Hayes.

She is survived by her eleven children and their spouses: Dianne and David Wallace of Cebu, Philippines; Joanne and Ed Clark of Monroeville; Barbara and Don Wachowiak of Toledo; Victoria Hayes of Huron; Ken and Deb DeChant of Milan; Michael and Mary Jo DeChant of Huron; Peggy and Tom Maidlow of Bowling Green; Lisa and David Dahmen of Sandusky; Mary Alice Tracht of Sandusky; Marcia and Bill Mees of Caseyville, IL; Andrea Mesenburg of Huron; twenty-seven grandchildren; thirty-four great grandchildren; sister Joan Moore of Elyria; and brother Louis Weber of Little River, SC.

Friends may call Wednesday, June 4, 2014, from 9:30 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am at St. Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main St. Huron, OH 44839, with Rev. Jeffrey R. McBeth officiating. Burial will follow in Scott Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Peter Catholic Church, Huron, or Stein Hospice Services, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, 44870.
