GREENWICH -- Leland C. Ellis, 97, of Greenwich, died Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Hillside Acres in Willard. He was born April 22, 1917 in Ripley Township and lived most of his life in Greenwich.
He graduated from Greenwich High School in 1935. Leland worked at Barnes Pump in Mansfield, Troxel Farm Implement in Greenwich, Fishbaugh and Devoe in Greenwich and retired in 1981 from General Motors in Mansfield after 24 years.
Leland was a member of the American Legion, a past member of the Greenwich Fire Department for over 25 years and member of the VFW 2480 in Port Clinton.
He is survived by his children, Diane (Robert) Norris of New Washington, Kenneth (Jeanette) Ellis of Enon, OH, Richard Ellis of Port Clinton, Jeanne (Jack) Bennett of Alabama and Steve Ellis of Phoenix, AZ; 12 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Leland was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene; parents, Clyde and Lourenda (Momyer) Ellis; sister, Thelma Reed; brother, Myron Ellis and half brother, Bruce Baker.
Leland's family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2014 at Eastman Funeral Home, 49 W. Main St., Greenwich where a service will held 1 p.m. Tuesday with Pastor Chris Lutz officiating. Burial will follow in Edwards Grove Cemetery, Greenwich with military rites. A bereavement lunch will follow burial at the VFW 2480, 214 Madison St., Port Clinton 43452.
