Gail Vernon Shoemaker, age 72, of Plymouth, died Friday, December 20, 2013 at his home.
He was born September 13, 1941 in Willard, Ohio, son of the late Ival A. and Beatrice (Daugherty) Shoemaker. Gail was a Greenwich High School graduate and had lived in Fredricktown, Greenwich and New Haven. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Munich, Germany from 1964 to 1966. Gail was a truck driver for Richland Laminated Columns, Dutch Maid, Norwalk Furniture and Niese Farms. He was a member of the National Tractor Pulling Association and the National Barrel Horse Association for many years. Gail enjoyed horses, old cars and trucks.
He is survived by his wife, Donna (Rogers) Shoemaker, whom he married June 7, 1986; his children, Brandi (Walter) Prosser of Somerville, Alabama, Candice Shoemaker of Shelby, Jason (Erica) Shoemaker of North Fairfield, Nicole (Mark) Hartschuh of Findlay, Brian (Kathy) Crow and Denise Crow all of Willard; his grandchildren, Brian Prosser, Kyle and Zack Hartschuh, Cody (Heidi) Shoemaker, Shannon and Savannah Cole, Hayden and Baylee Shoemaker, Cheyanne and Jina Temple, Braxton Chapman; 2 great grandchildren, Aliyah and Tyson Shoemaker; and his brother, Gerald (Sheila "Gisela" ) Shoemaker of Mansfield.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Dean Shoemaker and Beverly Sprague.
Friends may call from 6 - 9 p.m. Thursday, December 26, 2013 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 49 West Main St., Greenwich. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 27, at the Ripley Church, 4130 South Edwards Rd., Greenwich with Pastor Eric Robinson and Eddie Gibson officiating.
