NORWALK — Urban "Joe" Wise, age 82, of Norwalk, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born June 20, 1931 in Havana, OH to the late Frank and Rosina (Swint) Wise. In his earlier years he worked at the Paper Mill in Avery and then retired after 28 years from Lake Erie Construction, retiring in 1993. He was active at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Monroeville Athletic Boosters, Bronson Conservation Club, Golden Eagles in Monroeville, Senior Enrichment Services and the Norwalk Eagles Aerie #711. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren's sporting events, and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns, Indians and Cavs teams. He was known for his love of playing cards and attending casinos, collecting hats, antique saws and Stein Mugs.

He is survived by his children, June Grosswiler, Annie (Greg) Van Wey, Teresa (John Koch) Lakner, Joseph (Brenda) Wise, Frank (Karen) Wise, Michael Wise; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Wise; sister, Rita Foos; sisters-in-law, Karen (Mike) Flohr and Sharon Ingram and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Wise in 2011; daughter, Rosanne Wise; grandson, Matthew Young; brothers, Ambrose, Raymond and Eugene Wise; sisters, Anna Knoll, Norma Baum and Mary Phillips; son-in-law, Michael Maag; and brother-in-law, Raymond Ingram.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Broad and Chapel Streets in Monroeville with Rev. Douglas Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
