Eugene C. Clark, age 81, of New London, died Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at Firelands, New London.
He was born May 9, 1931 in New London, son of the late Homer C. and Katherine M (McKean) Clark.
Eugene was a 1951 graduate of New London High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict stationed in Alaska.
Eugene was owner and mechanic of Clark Bros. Garage in New London until his retirement. He also was a mechanic for the New London schools for 24 years and was a substitute bus driver for New London schools.
Eugene's father and Uncle Buford started the original Clark Brothers Garage in 1928. The original building was torn down where the current Mickey Mart gas station is located. In 1938, Homer built the cement garage that is the current location. Homer and Buford retired in 1963, that is when Eugene and his brother Albert took over the business until 1992 when it was sold. Clark Brothers Garage was a AAA service provider for over 50 years.
He was a member of the New London Alliance Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Reta M. (Cotter) Clark, whom he married August 15, 1959; his children, Leta (Ed) Stapleton of Bradner, Ohio, Harrisileen Williams of Knob Noster, Missouri, Sarah Conley of New London; 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; his sister, Lucille Olson of New London. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Clinton Williams and his brother, Albert Clark.
Friends may call from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Doug Lang officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Grove Street Cemetery, New London.
