NORWALK -- James Adkins, age 70, of Norwalk, died Saturday evening, March 23, 2013 at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky after a year long battle with brain cancer.
He was born November 16, 1942 in Amonate, VA to the late Oscar and Nannie (James) Adkins. Jim moved to Ohio when he was a child in elementary school. He graduated in 1961 from Wellington High School. Most of his career involved the auto industry. He first worked as an electrician and then became a supervisor and plant manager, retiring in 2008.
Jim had a life long passion for sports. He was an avid golfer and racquetball player. This passion led him to serve several terms on the Park and Recreation Board in Norwalk. He was proud to have been part of the team that helped bring the Ernsthausen Community Center to Norwalk. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carole (Jordan) Adkins of Norwalk; sons, Joel Adkins and Jeff (Nicole) Adkins, all of Norwalk Jerod (Sonia) Adkins of Scottsdale, AZ; granddaughter, Addison; and a grandson, Aidan; brother, Tom (Marsha) Adkins of CA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Pauline Adkins; and two sisters, Dorothy and Edith.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A private family service and burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Wellington.
