Bruce A. Hammann, 77, of New London, passed away peacefully on Thursday March 14, 2013 surrounded by his wife and children. Bruce was born August 21, 1935 in Evanston, Illinois to Albert and Geraldine (Lutes) Hammann.
He graduated from Howe Military School in Indiana. On July 16, 1960, Bruce and Mary Jean Blair were united in marriage in Oak Park, Illinois and the couple recently celebrated their 52nd anniversary. Bruce had fond childhood memories of summers spent on his grandparents' farm, so in 1972 the family relocated to a New London farm. Bruce worked as both a farmer and an industrial engineer before retirement. Bruce was an active volunteer in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary as a member of Flotilla 12 Station Marblehead.
He enjoyed boating on Candlewood Lake and spending time with his family and golden retriever, Sadie.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and twin brother Ron. In addition to Mary Jean, Bruce is survived by his daughter Deb (Don) Love of Butler, son Al (Donna) Hammann of New London, and daughter Beth (Kevin) Thomas of Delta; as well as grandchildren Scott and Abby Love, Allison Hammann, and Madeline, Emily, and Michael Thomas. Also surviving is sister, Laurel Stelzer of Bolingbrook, Illinois.
Arrangements have been made by Eastman Funeral Home and a memorial service will be held on Friday March 22, 2013 at 7:00 P.M. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Norwalk with Reverend Margaret D'Anieri officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice House of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Road Ashland, Ohio 44805.
