Charles Jackson "Jack" Ashby, 83, entered into eternal rest on Monday, February 25, 2013, at The Heritage Center in Morristown, Tenn.
Jack was born on January 31, 1930, son of the late Edward Stuart and Effie Alice Whitesel Ashby. A member of the U.S. Navy, he graduated from Harrisonburg High School, entered Bridgewater College for his first year of college and continued to what was known as the Medical College of Virginia where he graduated with a master's degree in pharmacy. He worked in several capacities for Drug Fair, which later evolved into Rite Aid. He retired in 2002 after almost 50 years as a pharmacist.
Jack was involved with his church as a deacon, his community as an after-school tutor and served in various volunteer capacities as time allowed. His kind, gentle spirit and generous heart touched many.
He was predeceased by Emily Adams Ashby, his wife of 11 years, in 1965 and Mary Charles Adams Ashby, his wife of 27 years in 2001 as well as his sisters Sarah A. Ashby and Alice Virginia Ashby Wine.
He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his daughter, Emily Ashby McIntire (and husband Mike), of Morristown, Tenn.; his son, Cary S. Ashby, of Norwalk; three grandchildren who made him proud: Timothy McIntire and Megan and Melissa Ashby along with his brother in law "twice over," Philip C. Adams, Jr. and four special nieces and nephews.
Interment will be Friday, March 1, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Woodbine Cemetery. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Warrenton Presbyterian Church in Warrenton, Va.
