Arthur F. Rider 82, of North Fairfield, Ohio, died Saturday evening, February 16, 2013 in Twilight Gardens Nursing Home.
He was born July 28,1930 in Port Clinton, Ohio to the late Thomas and Prudence M. (Morgan) Rider and was a lifelong area resident. Arthur was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea.
He retired from the Erie County Sheriff's Department. Arthur was a Major, K-9 handler, and bailiff in the Huron County Sheriff's Department, and was the former owner of Art's Auto Body.
He was a member of the Erie and Huron County Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police. Arthur enjoyed hunting, NASCAR, four wheeling, dog training and animals.
He is survived by his daughter and son in law, Leanne M. and Charles Zeller of Cape Coral, Florida, and by his son and daughter in law, Mark H. and Kathy Rider of North Fairfield, Ohio, by 3 grandchildren, Bryan Zeller, Sarah and Billy Johnson and, Jason and Marta Biglin, and 6 great grandchildren . He is also survived by his brother, John Rider of Wickliffe, Ohio, by his sister, Margie Kaman of Sandusky, Ohio ,and by his dear friends, Carl Schwanagan and Doug Slagle. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lynda in 2001, and by 9 brothers and sisters.
There will be no calling hours or service. Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio is in charge of arrangements.
