Robert Maurice Hill

 Robert Maurice Hill, 91, passed away February 12, 2013 at Norwalk Memorial Home, following a brief illness.

Bob was born on March 18, 1921 in Lorain, Ohio, to the late Aaron and Maude (Krebs) Hill.

He graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Lorain and he attended John Carroll University. Bob was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army European Theater of Operations in England and Belgium.

He married Jeanne Elizabeth Powers of Norwalk, Ohio on April 19, 1947. He was employed as a claims supervisor for the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services in Norwalk and Sandusky.

Bob was active in several local organizations including the Norwalk Jaycees and, as a Jaycee, he organized the first Norwalk Pet n' Pup Parade. He and his wife were volunteers for the Meals on Wheels program for 12 years. He is a past President of the Norwalk Park and Recreation Board and served on numerous citizens committees for the betterment of Norwalk. He also served on the Board of Directors for the District 5 Area Agency on Aging.

Bob was an avid collector of radios and coins and an automobile aficionado. He was a voracious reader, reading six newspapers daily, and enjoyed discussing politics and current events. He enjoyed making refrigerator magnets with different foreign coins and giving them to people he met.

Bob is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Jeanne, and his three daughters, Diane Ratcliff of Arnold, Maryland; Gretchen (Jim) Gerken of Norwalk, Ohio; and Patricia Hill of Topanga Canyon, California. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Abigail Ratcliff of Arnold, Maryland; Miles Lewis of Topanga Canyon, California; James Gerken of New York, New York; and Samuel Gerken of Norwalk, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Maude Hill, his brother, Reverend Paul J. Hill, and his three half-siblings, Kenneth Hill, Viola Guiler, and Sister Mary Ethelrita.

There will be no visitation and a private family service will be held with the Reverend Anthony Recker officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Norwalk.
