Merle "Mac" L. McConkey

 Merle "Mac" L. McConkey, 83, of Bellevue passed away Monday, February 04, 2013 at his home.

He was born July 11, 1929 in Norwalk the son of L.D. and Olive (Bowen) McConkey.

Merle was a 1947 graduate of Norwalk High School. He served in the United States Air Force in Germany from 1950-1952. He was employed at American Baler until his retirement in 1992.

Merle was a member of First United Methodist Church, Bellevue, American Legion Post 1238 and the Bellevue Elks Lodge 1013 where he served as Past Exalted Ruler. Mac was a sports enthusiast. He was an avid golfer, and officiated basketball and football games for many years. He also volunteered at the Bellevue Hospital and Fish & Loaves. He cherished his monthly breakfast in Norwalk with his fellow classmates from the Class of 1947.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty (Homan), whom he married October 18, 1950 at First United Methodist Church, Norwalk; two sons, Michael (Val) of Perrysburg, Steven (Sheri) of Findlay; daughter, Shelia Pastor of Montrose, West Virginia; 7 grandchildren: Timothy, Michelle, Taylor, Amanda, Jacob, Rachel, and Shara Lynn; 7 great grandchildren: Cole, Paige, Caden, Jackson, Eastin, Mason, and Griffin. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 from 2-8 p.m. at Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue where an Elks Memorial Service will begin at 6 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 901 Northwest St., Bellevue, Ohio 44811. Burial and military honors will follow at Bellevue City Cemetery.
