Maurine Schottke, age 101, of Norwalk, died Monday evening, January 21, 2013 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center.
She was born June 16, 1911 in Fort Recovery, Ohio to the late Adam and Eva (Badger) Rainsberger.
She married her husband, Rev. Earl F. Schottke, on July 20, 1938 and raised four children. She began her teaching career in 1933 in Dayton, Ohio, taught in Logan, Kirkersville, Washington Court House and Bradford, and retired from Berlin Heights School District in 1987.
She began her college education at Miami University of Ohio and received advanced certifications in special education and learning disabilities from Bowling Green State University. Maurine worked as a Christian educator in many churches throughout Ohio. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Norwalk for 37 years and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by her children, Rachel Thompson of Topeka, KS, Miriam Chavira of Fort Meyers, FL, Martha Peterson of Foster, RI and David Schottke of Washington DC; two grandchildren, Andrew Lover of Singapore and Cindy Walbridge of Warwick, RI; two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Zachery Walbridge; a brother, Lynn (Irene) Rainsberger of Wilmington, Ohio; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Rev. Earl F. Schottke in 1999; brother, Dale; and a sister, Isabelle.
Friends may call on Monday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk.
Also Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at 11:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church, 21 Firelands Blvd., Norwalk, Ohio. The Rev. Adrian N. Doll, pastor of the church, will officiate. A graveside service will be Wednesday at 12:00 P.M. in the I.O.O.F Cemetery in Blanchester, Ohio.
