George A. Bixby, 87, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Friday, January 4, 2013, in Norwalk Memorial Home surrounded by his family.
He was born February 19, 1925 in Norwalk, Ohio to the late Arthur P. and Florence (Meyer) Bixby and was a lifelong area resident.
George attended St. Anthony Catholic Church, Milan, Ohio, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in W.W. II.
He was a teamster truck driver for Montgomery Ward and other companies for many years. George was a member of Firelands Post #2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Norwalk, Ohio and was a founding member of Vacationland Travelers. He enjoyed camping and yard work.
George is survived by his children, Michael G. Bixby and Beverly Shoemake of Monroeville, Ohio, Shari A. and Richard Parker, of Milan, Ohio, and Scott A. and Jeri Bixby of Norwalk, Ohio. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Dennis Bixby, Diane Darling, Jeffrey Stenger, Tamara Boyd, James Parker, Richard Parker, Jr., Traci Bumpus, and Jaysen Koehn, 18 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and by one soon to be born. George is also survived by his sisters, Ivon Service of Norwalk, Ohio and Joyce Dzoba of Elyria, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janis in 2004, by his brothers, Marvin and Betty Bixby, and Roy Bixby, and by his brothers in law, George Service, and Jack Dzoba and by his daughter in law, Cleo Bixby.
Friends may call on Thursday, January 10, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio where funeral services will be held on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be in St. Anthony Cemetery, Milan, Ohio.
