NEW LONDON — Evelyn Mae Whetstone, 87, of New London, died Thursday, October 25, 2012 at The Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at Firelands in New London.

She was born February 11, 1925, in Hartland Twp. to the late Fred and Ruth E. (Leimbach) Perkins.

Evelyn was a lifelong resident of New London. She graduated from New London High School in 1943. Evelyn worked at the former News Center and the Box Office Restaurant in New London.

Evelyn was a 50 year member of the New London American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had great joy working in her flower garden.

Survived by sons, Stephen (Lisa) Whetstone of New London and Jerry (Lori) Whetstone of Katy, Texas; 4 grandchildren, Aimee, Adrianne, Linda and Chad; 6 great grandchildren and sister, Eleanor Thomas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, whom she married Feb. 15, 1946; brothers, Louis, Robert, Hubert, Charles, Lenard and Wayne Perkins and sisters, Patricia Bleile and Arlene Crumerine.

Friends may call from 6 - 9 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main Street, New London and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Grove Street Cemetery, New London. Memorials may be given to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870, the New London American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, 185 N. Main St., New London, Ohio 44851 or to the New London Alumni Association in care of the funeral home.
