Florine Elizabeth (Boyd) Harkness of Norwalk passed away Monday, Sept. 24, 2012 at Stein hospice after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Franklin County VA, the fifth child of Frankie Elizabeth Martin and Samuel Irvin Boyd.
She graduated from high school in Franklin County before moving to Washington DC where she worked for the Prime Minister of India and the Pentagon. Around 1949, she joined her family who had moved to Norwalk OH. There she worked as a domestic for years. She has also been a member of the Norwalk CME Church.
Florine loved to garden, shop, cook, bake, and entertain. Most of all, she loved her family. Everybody was special to her. She made each and every one of her siblings, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews feel as though he or she was her favorite. Her favorite words to them were "I love you so much."
Florine is survived by her children: Karen Evon Thomas, JoAnn Harkness, both of Norwalk, Wanda Harkness Shoulders of Rocky Mount VA, Carol Lee Campbell of Norwalk, Stewart Harkness of Sandusky, and Maxine Harkness of Norwalk; siblings, James (Louise) Boyd of Norwalk, Flossie Simmons of Sandusky, Floyd Boyd of Mansfield, Loretha (Chris) McKinney of Willard and Minnie Robinson of Centerville OH, and special cousin, Joyce Meadows;13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and numerous other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Ellen Smith, Melvin Boyd, Edward Boyd, Viola Hancock and Eva Simpson; and a special niece, Lillie Rodgers.
Services will be Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. at Norwalk Alliance Church, 2755 Route 250, Norwalk OH 44857. Overseer Steve Robinson, Pastor of City of Deliverance of Lorain OH, is officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Norwalk OH.
