Herman Rudolph Crecelius

Herman Rudolph Crecelius, 88, lifelong dairy farmer, of Fitchville, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk  

He was born June 27, 1924, in Sandusky, to the late Albert and Dorthea (Cull) Crecelius.

Herman graduated from Milan High School in 1943 as senior class president. He played basketball and ran track during high school and in the late 1940’s and 1950’s he played on the Kimble Hawks basketball team. Herman also played on the IOOF Dart Ball league.

He volunteered for the New London Salvation Army Disaster Team and drove the Canteen in the local parades for many years. Herman was a member of the Fitchville United Methodist Church and served as a Trustee. He was also a member of the Pamona Grange in Huron County. He was a Fitchville Trustee for 23 years. Herman served on the Erie / Huron County Water Authority, Huron County Heritage, Huron County Health Board and the New London Band Boosters and Athletics Boosters.

Herman helped build the Fitchville Grange Hall now known as the Township Hall. He participated in chicken barbeques and turkey suppers.

He is survived by wife, Carol; son, John Albert (Vivian) Crecelius of Milan; daughter, Colleen Faith Peeler of Reno, NV; granddaughters, Stefanie Leigh Crecelius and Jacalyn Elise Crecelius; grandson, Kelby Jon Peeler; sisters, Alvina (John) Schaffer and Joann (Richard) Jones; brothers, James (Margie) Crecelius and Wayne Crecelius; aunt, Marion Gillen and 44 nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Carol’s children, Sherri (Chris) Ingrum of New London and Jeff (Wendy) Davis of Canton; her grandchildren, Shannon, Chris, Joel, Makala and Samuel and her great grandson, Levi.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Ruth (Fergson) Crecelius; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth (Lloyd) Kyle and sister-in-law, Barbara Horn.

Herman’s family will greet friends from 5-8 pm with a Grange service to be held at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, September 26th at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London where a service will be held at 11 am Thursday with Pastor Georgette Gaston. Burial will follow in Fitchville Cemetery.
