Hugh F. Conry, 88, passed away early Friday morning September 14, 2012 while a resident at Norwalk Memorial Home.

A life - long resident of Norwalk, Hugh was born November 18 , 1923 on a farm in Wakeman. The son of Martin and Christine (Weinsheimer)Conry, he grew up with a family of eight other brothers and three sisters , all of whom have pre- deceased him. After graduating from Wakeman High School in 1943 , he enlisted in the Army and saw action in France. As a rifleman with the 2nd Infantry Division, he landed in Normandy in 1944 and after being severely wounded outside Vire, France was evacuated to the United States with two Purple Hearts.

In addition to his Army decorations he was also awarded the French Legion of Honor Medal on behalf of the government of France for his wartime service in the liberation of that country.

After recovering and upon discharge from the service, Hugh married his High School sweetheart Marjorie Thomas of Wakeman. Hugh and Marjorie were married for 65 years and have two children, son Kevin and daughter Kathy Pflieger.

During his post- war working years, Hugh was employed as a concrete finisher with Baltes Construction, Hug Construction, and finally with Bay Construction until he retired in 1986. He was also a long- time Cleveland Indians baseball fan and once pitched in their minor league system.

In addition to his wife and two children, Hugh is survived by five grandchildren and eleven great- grandchildren.

Friends may call Thursday, September 20, 2012 from 10:00 a.m until time of services at 12:00 (Noon) in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main St. Norwalk, Ohio. Monsignor Kenneth Morman will officiate. Interment will be in St Paul Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by Ken Bur Bell Post #41 American Legion. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Activity Fund at the Norwalk Memorial Home, 272 Benedict Ave., Norwalk, Ohio.
