MANSFIELD — Martin J. "Marty" Bird, Jr., 93, of Mansfield, died Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Oak Grove Manor. Born December 15, 1918 in Leominster, MA he was the son of Martin J. Bird, Sr. and Rose A. (Lynch) Bird. He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Faulhaber Company in Monroeville as a general manager. Marty was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and the Norwalk Elks #730 and enjoyed playing golf, cards, crossword puzzles and bowled on numerous bowling leagues.
He is survived by two sons, Martin J. "Joe" Bird, III of Willoughby, OH and Stephen M. (Susan K.) Bird of Mansfield; two daughters, Beryl Coder of Indian Rocks Beach, FL and Kelly (Herman) Bechstein of Bowling Green, OH; five grandchildren, Aaron (Annie Van DeMar) Coder, Jason Baker, Mariah Baker (Ken) Johnson, Keegan Bird and Lynsey Atkin; and six great grandchildren, Breeanna, Dylan, Bryce, Jenna, China and Casey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Olive (Rourke) Bird; and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario. Burial will follow in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the services, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
