SANDUSKY -- Ilene Gallegos, 86 formerly of Norwalk, and residing in Sandusky, passed away early Thursday morning at Parkvue Health Care Center, after a lengthy illness.
Ilene was born on July 15, 1926 in Norwalk, Ohio to the late William Oram and Myrtle Evelyn (Brown) Wright.
Ilene was employed with Home Savings and Loan in Norwalk, and retired after many years of dedicated service. She was a member of the Northeast Ohio Coalition for National Health Care, the NAACP, FLOC, National Organization of Women, Firelands Progressive Coalition, and Voices for Peace and Justice. She was a Norwalk City Councilwoman in the First Ward and served for three terms in that position. Ilene enjoyed political activism, and serving for the Democratic Party. Ilene also played an important role in bringing the Norwalk Workers Monument to her home town. She also enjoyed all kinds of animals, and even operated her own pet care service.
Ilene is survived by her longtime companion and friend, Ray Johnjulio of Sandusky; one son Michael Graham of Tiffin, Ohio; her grandchildren Michael Graham of Cleveland, Ohio ; Eric Graham of Morgantown of W. Virginia; Teresa Graham of Rosemont; California; Shannon Garlitz of Kingwood W. Virginia, Heather Chandler, Danielle Graham both of Norwalk, Ohio, Tami Bryan of Mansfield, Ohio, Scott Truman of Sandusky, Ohio, and Kim Ritter of Columbus, Ohio and one brother, William Wright of Sandusky.
Including her parents, Ilene was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Graham.
Friends may call on Tuesday, August 7 from 12:30 pm until the time of services at 1:30 pm at Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Reverend Robert Herkner will be presiding.
