HURON — Wallis “W.W.” Wayne Dees, 74, of Huron, died Monday in the Lutheran Memorial Home, Sandusky.
He was born April 2, 1933 in Baldwyn Miss. He retired from Ford Motor Co. of Lorain after 30 years, where he was a union steward for 17 years.
He was a moderator of the Northern Ohio Baptist Association and was also involved as a Deacon and Lay preacher in many area churches.
He was vice president of the Northern Ohio Rural Water, and a board member of the Erie County Zoning Commission for many years.
He umpired men’s softball, and especially enjoyed umpiring girls Little League.
His many hobbies included fishing, gardening, and crafts. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending all of their sporting events. He was a lifelong Huron Tigers fan.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Doris N. “Dot” Dees of Huron; a daughter, Anne (Rich) Wadsworth of Sandusky; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry (Deanna) Dees of Mobile, Ala., Paul (Colletta) Dees of Huron, Billy Joe (Linda) Dees of Huron, and Teddy (Vicki) Dees of Sandusky; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Geneva Prentiss and Jeannette Rickels, of Mississippi; and a brother, Layne (Syble) Dees of Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Taylor and Nora Bell (nee Wallis) Dees; a sister, Lessie Latch; and brothers, Clovis and Irving Dees.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Foster Funeral Home, 410 Main St., Huron.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at The Chapel, 4444 Galloway Road, Sandusky.
Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
