SANDUSKY — The Rev. Robert Reed Dieterich Sr., 95, died Wednesday.
He served churches in the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church.
His active ministry began in Whitman, Mass., and was followed by assignments in Brecksville, Millersburg, Wadsworth, Norwalk, Massillon, Boardman, Christ Church in Cleveland and New Philadelphia.
He was a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and received his divinity degree from Boston University with additional graduate work at Drew University.
Upon retirement in 1975, he and his wife, Elizabeth Jeffras Dieterich, moved to Venice, Fla. They traveled extensively in East and South East Asia, South America and Africa. He was the author of the book “The Seven Deadly Virtues.”
Elizabeth Jeffras Dieterich died in 1979 in Venice. He later married Miriam Laskey Winters. They took up residence in Lakeside, where they had both spent many happy years since early childhood. They later lived at the Otterbein North Shore Retirement Community and at Sandusky's Parkvue Health Care Center. Miriam Dieterich died in 2004.
He is survived by his sons, William Jeffras Dieterich, a retired U.S. diplomat who lives in Arlington, Va., the Rev. Robert Reed Dieterich Jr., pastor of the Bedford First United Methodist Church, and Craig Jeffras Dieterich, director of choral music for the Lakeside Association.
A memorial service will be held in Lakeside during the summer season.
