Sister Virginia Fisher, 83, of the Sisters of St. Francis in Tiffin, died Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 7:35 AM in St. Francis Home.

She was born February 10, 1925 in Fort Jennings, Ohio, to the late Frank and Gertrude (Scharf) Fisher.

Survivors include one half-sister, Rachel Fisher of Delphos, OH; and one brother, Norman Fisher of Spring Hill, FL.

She was preceded in death by two brothers: Robert Fisher and Donald Fisher.

Sister Virginia took her Reception Vows on August 12, 1942. She took her First Profession on August 12, 1944 and her Final Profession on August 12, 1947. Sister Virginia served as teacher and/or principal in Edgerton, New Cleveland, Bucyrus, Miller City, Carey, Fort Jennings, and Landeck. She was Aspirant Mistress for the high school for students who attended St. Francis Convent School. She was Religious Education Coordinator for Parish in Fort Jennings, and worked in Parish Ministry in Landeck. When she returned to Tiffin, Sister Virginia was Activity Director for Seneca County Home and part-time Activity Director for the Needy and Elderly in Seneca County. Later she served as Director of Communications and Hospitality for the Sisters of St. Francis. She continued to utilize her teaching experience by serving as a tutor for Oriana House and Crosswaeh; and by teaching CCD to students of St. Joseph Parish, Tiffin. As long as Sister Virginia was able she spend time visiting people in the area nursing homes. At the time of her death she was minister of prayer for the congregation.

Sister Virginia had a special love for the Eucharist and the Detroit Tigers. She spent most time each day in prayer, and she was a staunch fan and supporter of the Detroit Tigers. The Funeral Mass will be officiated by Rev. Fred Duschl at 10:30am on Thursday, May 22, 2008 in the St. Francis Convent Chapel, 200 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin, Ohio 44883. Burial will be in St. Francis Convent Cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 7pm at St. Francis Convent Chapel. A Christian Wake Service will be at 7 pm at the convent chapel.
