LOUDONVILLE — Russell Twining, 84, died Saturday at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Loudonville.

He was born Sept. 5, 1922, son of the late Lewis and Lavella (Sprague) Twining. He was married to Doris (Burrows) Twining on July 4, 1943.  

He spent most of his life dairy farming in Huntington and later in Loudonville. He served on the Black River School Board, served as a Lake Township trustee for six years, and was a former member of the Huntington and Clarkfield Grange. After retiring from farming, he worked for Hobby Nursery and the Ashland County Fairgrounds. He also spent several years driving for the Amish community.

He attended Mohicanville Community Church. He was an avid coon hunter and spent many happy days fishing on Lake Erie.  

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris Twining; children and their spouses, Jean (Gail) Sheriff of Ashland, Kathy (Ken) White, Dave (Lois) Twining, Charles (Vicki) Twining and Deb Cleveland, all of rural Loudonville; sisters, Mary Jane Jackson of Lodi, Ruth (Phil) Rook and Janet Biddinger, both of Sullivan; 22 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers Ronald (Rollie) Twining, Richard Twining and Roy Twining; a sister, Lois Ann VonKamp; and an infant sister, Nancy.

 Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mohicanville Community Church with the Rev. Ken Hammontree officiating. Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery.
