LORAIN — Roy D. Zimberlin, 86, of Wakeman, died Wednesday at Community Health Partners in Lorain.

He was born May 30, 1921 in Gallitzin, Pa. and moved to Ohio in the 1950s.

He was a sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He flew 30 missions over Germany and France, including D-day as a waist gunner with the 410t" Bomb Squadron, 94"' Bomb Group.

He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart, air medal, good conduct medal, and European, African, and Middle Eastern service medal.

He was an active member of the Henrietta United Methodist Church since moving to Ohio. He was also a Mathematics teacher at Clearview High School for 25 years.

He enjoyed reading, gardening, golfing and fishing.

He is survived by his sons, Harold (Linda) of Wakeman, Darryl (Maryellen) of Springfield, Curtis of Wakeman; a daughter Rebecca Zimberlin of Vermilion; two grandsons; and several great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Vera (Wess) Zimberlin; parents Albert and Helen Zimberlin; and a brother, Harold Zimberlin.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held  at 11 a.m. Jan. 5 at Henrietta United Methodist Church, 52148 Ohio 113, Amherst.
